Salinas Valley native Sue Tavernetti died Aug. 24, 2017, at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. She was 78.

She died peacefully and surrounded by her family, following complications from heart surgery.

A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, at Faith Episcopal Church, 2200 Country Club Drive in Cameron Park. A reception will follow. Inurnment at Green Valley Cemetery will be private.

Born Suzanne Giacomazzi on Oct. 24, 1938, she was the eldest child of Olga and Loran Giacomazzi. She attended schools in King City, and earned a bachelor of arts degree in theological studies in 1989 from the School for Deacons of the Episcopal Diocese of California.

On June 4, 1964, she married David Tavernetti in King City. The couple recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. They raised three daughters in King City. In 2007, they moved to El Dorado Hills, east of Sacramento, to be closer to family.

She served as vicar in charge at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Jolon for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, quilting, attending musical theater and traveling.

She was preceded in death in 2003 by her sister Beverly Giacomazzi of King City.

She is survived by her husband, David Tavernetti; and daughters Mary Tavernetti of Waxahachie, Texas; Ann Tavernetti and her husband, Brian Weitzel, of Roseville; and Sarah Tavernetti and her wife, Angie Monroe, of Roseville; sister Gwen Lerma of Prunedale; brother Gary Giacomazzi and his wife, Christy, of Wenatchee, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Owen and McKenna Weitzel of Roseville, and David Trost of Waxahachie, Texas.

Through her church’s mission, Mrs. Tavernetti supported a school tuition program in Honduras, offering direct aid to families. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Episcopal Church, 2200 Country Club Drive, Cameron Park CA 95682, specifying Honduran Scholarship in the memo line.
