State issues Title 1 grants to schools


$5M awarded to South County school districts

SOUTH COUNTY — Central Coast school districts were awarded more than $28 million in Title 1 grants for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year, and several South Monterey County schools were included.

The announcement came from Congressman Jimmy Panetta.

“Title 1 funds are the backstop to ensure all students receive an equitable education across our Central Coast schools,” Panetta said. “I am proud to represent a diverse region that values investments in our children to foster their future education.”

Among the schools receiving funds were Gonzales Unified School District, Chualar Union Elementary School District, Greenfield Union Elementary School District, King City Joint Union High School District, King City Union Elementary School District, Mission Union Elementary School District, San Antonio Union Elementary School District, San Ardo Union Elementary School District, San Lucas Union Elementary School District and Soledad Unified School District.

South Monterey County school districts will receive a total of about $5,374,061 in Title 1 grant funds.
